The Iron Lady was established in April 2000.The Original idea behind the Iron lady was to supplement my wife’s and the family income. At this time I was a house husband and main carer of my severely disabled daughter whom for the previous 5 years I had bought up as a single parent. We soon realised there was a great demand for an ironing service in our area, which no one was providing. I too became involved and due to demand, my wife gave up her full time job so we could both concentrate on this new venture.
Using our own bungalow as our base, My wife worked from home and I collected and delivered the ironing. Within 3 months the work load had increased to a point where we had to employ our first member of staff (who is still with us). By the end of the year we had three members of staff all working from the front room of our bungalow. Obviously, we could not continue working in this way so we rented space in a vacant property close to home.
After two years, the business had increased tremendously. So we had to move again to our present location a 1,200sq ft warehouse unit. The business is still continuing to grow at a very vast rate. We now offer a laundry service as well as ironing. We have two commercial washing machines and two commercial dryers. 5 Full time Ironing people, 1 full time and 1 part time Laundry person, a delivery driver and myself.
